The Management of Nilayo Sports Company has announced the commencement of the registration of the 2021 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.

This was made known today (Thursday) at the press briefing to herald the sixth edition of the annual silver label race at the Marathon Office of the Telsim Balogun Stadium.

According to the organisers, the 2021 Lagos City Marathon would be exclusively for the 42km race, the 10km race and the wheel-chair race would not take place in accordance with the COVID-19 Protocol globally.

Bukola Olopade , the chairman of Nilayo Sports Management said , part of the strategy for a great race is the stepping down of the 10KM race .

“ We are very confident that we have put everything in place , we are very sure of the protocol put in place in organizing the 2021 Lagos City Marathon , part of the strategy is the stepping down of the 10km race so as not to have the 100,000 participants we do have and that would be against the protocol”

Reiterating the support of the Lagos State Government is the Executive Chairman of Lagos State Sports Commission, Sola Aiyepeku, who said the state would continue to support the event.

“Lagos State has become a sports tourist attraction because of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon so we are always happy to support and make sure that the Marathon happens and get better every year “

Also in attendance at the briefing is the Brand and Communication Manager of Nilayo Sports Management, Jumoke Adekanye , who is optimistic that the absence of the 10km race won’t take away the glitz and glamour of the event .

“ We are doing a 42 km race exclusively , no 10KM race , and we are expecting 10,000 runners , everybody should be aware that we are putting COVID-19 procedures in place and to ensure all our runners and participants are safe and they all follow the World Athletics protocol for road racing in times like this and in this new normal we found ourselves “

The 2021 Access Bank would take place on February 13 with just 10,000 targeted runners.
